DR. LEONARD HERTZBERG's extensive experience in the field of Clinical and Forensic Psychiatry extends over a 40-year period encompassing expert forensic evaluation and testimony in civil and criminal trials, as well as appropriateness of treatment.

Much of Dr. Hertzberg's forensic psychiatrist practice focuses on evaluation of violent and non-violent criminal behavior, competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility, medical malpractice, Independent Medical Evaluations (IME), and disability evaluations.

Dr. Hertzberg is an alumnus of Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA where he graduated Cum Laude. He obtained his M.D. degree at Tufts Medical School in Boston, MASS, and completed a psychiatric residency at the University of Maryland Psychiatric Institute.

He began his forensic experience during his last year of residency when he held a training position as Court Psychiatrist for the Medical Office in Baltimore City. He was a psychiatric consultant at Maryland's maximum security forensic hospital, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, prior to becoming the Director of Professional Education at this facility from 1976-1988.

Dr. Hertzberg has been an active member of the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL), and was an officer (Councillor) of that organization. Additionally he was one of the original founders and first president of the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of AAPL from 1982-1986.

Well known and respected among his peers, Dr. Hertzberg is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association. He has been an active member of the Maryland Psychiatric Society (MPS) where he served as the Society's President from 1997-1998 and been active on numerous committees. In 2010 Dr. Hertzberg was honored at the annual Maryland Psychiatric Society meeting with the Lifetime of Service Award.

Dr. Hertzberg continues to maintain a full-time active clinical and forensic psychiatrist practice. He has extensive forensic experience with criminal as well as civil issues. He has performed over 500 Independent Medical Evaluations (IME) on behalf of attorneys, agencies, insurance companies, and employers; and has testified in deposition as well as before Administrative Law Judges and in Court over 80 times.
